Ferdie + Flo Soap Co. is owned and run by Abbie Coomer (with a little help from her husband, Phil) from her workshop based in rural Dumfries & Galloway.

A love for using natural and environmentally friendly products and a need to find a new hobby during the Covid lockdown led to her producing her first batches of traditional cold process soap back in 2021.  It's soap which is used in their own home every day and after gifting soap bars to family and friends, the opportunity of turning a hobby into a small business arose. 

All the soap we produce is totally natural and free from any parabens, synthetics or preservatives.  It is also designed with a blend of skin nourishing butters and oils and is delicately fragranced using essential oils.  Made by hand from start to finish in small batches, the range currently includes 6 different soaps, each with their own distinct fragrance and suitable for a variety of skin types.  

What is Cold Process Soap?

Cold process soap is made by carefully combining oils and butters with a lye solution, triggering a natural chemical reaction called saponification that transforms the ingredients into soap. Once the mixture reaches the correct consistency, fragrances, clays, botanicals, or other skin-loving additives can be blended in before the soap is poured into moulds and left to harden. Unlike melt-and-pour or commercially produced soaps, cold process soap is made without external cooking after mixing, helping preserve the qualities of the carefully chosen ingredients. After unmoulding, each bar is cured for several weeks to allow excess water to evaporate, creating a harder, longer-lasting soap with a rich, gentle lather.

Please note that all of the soap recipes produced have been tested and approved by a qualified chemical safety assessor as is required by law before selling to the public.
